Guitar strings

Without strings, most instruments would be rendered useless.  The guitar is one of these instruments.  Having the right guitar strings can make or break your music, performances and musical career.  Make sure you have the guitar strings that you need in order to perform like you know you can.  You might be good, but you’re not good enough to make up for bad guitar strings-no musician is that good!

If you are just starting out at as a guitar musician, then you might feel overwhelmed by the plethora of guitar strings available.  There is a simple way to know what you need.  First, guitar strings are classified by the type of guitar- acoustic, base, and electric.  Second, there are different gauges of guitar strings that produce a different kind of sound.  These gauges from thin to thick are referred to as “light” for thin to “heavy” for thick.  Try out these different types of strings to decide what sound you prefer and what you can do with the different gauges.

Acoustic guitars also have a couple different types of strings.  Most guitar strings are made with a steel core, and you can get acoustic guitar strings made of steel.  But you can also get guitar strings made with a nylon or Kevlar core.  Steel guitar strings have more tuning durability and a faster response, while nylon and Kevlar strings are used heavily by classical guitarists because of their warmer tone and richer overtones.  You can decide what’s best for you by trying both styles and figuring out what sound preference you like better.

When it comes to electric guitar strings, there are a few options for different sounds.  Many brands are producing electric guitar strings with a “slinky” and “super slinky” sound.  This refers to how the strings are wound, with either a round, or hexagon shaped rounding to change the sound.  They are also made from a variety of materials, including nickel-plating for that solid and true tone.  Once again, only you can decide what kind of guitar strings are best for your music by trying them out.
